AI Compass / Quick reads

Whether a scraper gets through also depends on where it comes from (one measurement)

Automation Solo business

Only with a clear caveat: respecting robots.txt while circumventing blocks via proxies is self-contradictory. That is a legal question, not a technical one.

In depth: Collecting web data – settle the access path first, then build

Creator Magic had Claude Code build a scraper, a program that fetches web pages automatically. It respects robots.txt (the file in which a website specifies what programs may fetch) and fetches only public pages. From a data center it reached 33 of 100 pages. Via residential proxies, meaning detours through private internet connections, it was over 90%. He gives the total cost as around $2 (one measurement by the author on 100 pages, not verified). What carries over is the order: first settle where the data may come from and by which route, then build.

Tool and alternative

The video promotes DataImpulse via an affiliate link. Less problematic are official APIs and feeds of the target sites, the official Brave Search API (also in the video) and your own requests with rate limiting. The proxy route is not recommended here.
