References instead of adjectives
An AI designs to the average when you only give it adjectives. With real examples and clear rules, the result becomes more distinctive.
In depth: Websites without the AI look – directions, references, checks
Pages built with AI often look alike. AI LABS counters this with three things: Anthropic’s public skill frontend-design, which enforces a fixed direction and names typical AI mistakes such as purple gradients (23 June); always several design directions before choosing (13 June); and real reference sites through the MCP server Inspo, which gives the agent colours, fonts and spacing of real websites (18 September). A design.md with brand rules only comes in after the first finished page, otherwise it fixes things too early (13 June). After that, a subagent checks against this file.
Tool and alternative
frontend-design and Inspo are free (Inspo: MIT, per the README). Read and check both first. References do not always fit the industry. Only recreate other people’s interfaces if you are allowed to. The skill state in the videos dates from June, so retest with the current model.
